Insurance

For Bareboat charters, sailors or power boaters should consider insurance for some typical charter risks. All these insurances are of course optional, not obligatory. We recommend you at least consider travel cancellation expenses insurance for any charter you book as well as deposit insurance and skipper liability for bareboat charters.

Travel cancellation expenses Insurance

For each Crew we recommend the completion of the travel cancellation expenses insurances because of the partly extensive costs of the charter.

With the travel cancellation expenses insurance, the travel cancellation costs and the costs for a travel termination of a cruise are insured for all named persons participating in the voyage. The insurance period is from the beginning to the end of the journey.

The insurer indemnifies e.g. with unemployment, heavy illness, accident, death, inoculation incompatibility, pregnancy or damage to the property for the contractually owed travel rescission costs in case of non-taking part of the journey and in the case of breaking off of the journey for the additional travel expenses less the participation mentioned in the conditions

Charter Deposit Insurance

Charter Deposit Insurance

Basically, all charter bases insure the yachts of their fleets with both third-party liability insurance and hull insurance. The liability insurance covers damages to other boats, port facilities or strangers. The hull comprehensive insurance covers damages of the chartered yacht, and there is always a deductible. For this amount of deductible that is not covered by the hull insurance, the charterer is requested to pay a security deposit which will be retained until the end of the charter and refunded if no damages occurred. In some cases, the charter companies offer their own insurance with a “damage waiver”: Buying the non-refundable damage waiver, the charterer pays less refundable deposit. But with most charter bases, deposit insurance with an insurance company is recommended.

Charter deposit insurance is covered in the partial or total withholding of the charter deposit by the owner/charterer due to loss or damage caused by the private policyholder or the crew.

Extended Skipper third-party liability

If you are going to skipper a boat on your own, you will take responsibility, your competence and sense of responsibility are preconditions for your task.

The extended third-party liability insurance covers claims made against you as well as defence unjustified arrears. Boats and yachts are usually covered by liability insurance. Nevertheless, it frequently happens that a yacht liability or fully comprehensive insurer does not pay out in some instances, or the cover sum or the scope of the contract is insufficient. The cover takes effect when the yacht's own liability insurance cannot be applied. The extended third-party insurance does not cover e.g. the deposit (see deposit insurance); damages which were deliberately induced; penalties and fines.

It is highly recommended to apply for this insurance if you will be the skipper.
